Finally, the winning short stories are here! Unfortunately, due to the PDFs being created on a trial basis, these links are only temporary. They will be deleted from the Web on Sunday March, 19th. So, read them while they're good.

Congratulations to all.

HE 10 Poetry Compendium

Search for Subordinance

Standing in a righteous row, you’re tidy in your suit
They tell you how to think and when its time to shoot
But what of your opinions, your morals and beliefs
Oh you don’t think for yourself, what a great relief
Well you wear blindness you call pride
Pin it down with your hollow honor
But what is the cost you will pay
For all the suffering you caused this day
And with God and freedom you justify
While you blankly look on with your chin held high
Walk like a man, but you’re only a child
Searching for any excuse to run wild
Somewhere inside you have lost all control
And your losing yourself in a blackening hole

The Beast inside is ready to storm
Let it break free in a physical form

Convictions piled high- yes now is the time!

--Bethany

Something You Can't Hide

She never wants to write in pen
because pen you can't erase.
The best you can do
is cover it and make it look new.

She wants to write in pencil
because pencil can be erased,
gone forever,
so do something better.

But the pen haunts her,
everyday it consumes her.
Things she has written,
covered up but still there.

And she can't escape
what's hidden underneath
because she knows shes wrong
but she can't do better.

--Gabby

Purity

The sense of no flaws
the one who obeys the laws.
A life with no lies
like grandmas sweet Apple Pie.
A recipe that can't be changed
or else it won't be the same.
Something that has so much perfection
that has that sense of aggravation.
Being so pure is unreal
that you get this certain feel
of being not finished or incomplete.
That you wish you could disappear
in the pure thin air.

--Kristina

Mist Rises through
drizzling rain on
icy cold snow covering
green, lush grass from
summer’s sun turning
to clouds over fall’s
changing leaves which
float to the ground until
drizzling rain soaks them
icy cold snow covers them covering
lush green grass from summer’s past
springs to come and
leaves of fall

Why do you love?

Why do you love to lie?
And gaze at your torn lover cry

Well there are no more I love yous left to say
Yet they stay here with you anyway.

Why do you love to roar?
And gape at your weeping lovers core

Well there is no more sound left in these voices
Yet they delay these inevitable choices.

Why do you love to harm?
And stare at your bruised lovers arm

Well the pain is getting harder and harder to bear
Yet they still think that you’ll always care

Why do you love to drink?
And watch your drowning lover sink

Well the water is getting deeper every hour
Yet they swim for miles just to feel your power

Why can’t I just depart?
And leave my life of a broken heart

Well my addiction to you is like a craving I can’t resist
Yet my last moment of breath all I saw were your fists

The Light from The Dark

There is a line
Running across my world,
A line that divides
The Light from The Dark

Two sides to every story,
Two sides to everyone
Two sides in my mind
The Light from The Dark

The things I fear,
The things know one knows,
The things I regret,
The Light from The Dark

The reasons I smile,
My dreams and my hopes
Family and friends of mine
The Light from The Dark

If that line should disappear,
There would be a war, I fear.
Then there would no longer be,
The Light from The Dark.

-- Cianna

The Chair

I sat in the chair
Ready to accept fate and destiny
My toes cold and wet
I hear voices of a different language

They scream out orders for me to talk.
Hoping I will leak information
They kick and punch me
Making me bleed

The little jolt was no surprise
I know what’s coming
They give me to the count of five,
5…4…3…2…1…ZAP!

I will defend my country to the death!
